A Random Walk Through Statistics – Or Forrest Gump Does Quality

A. Blanton Godfrey, Joseph D. Moore Distinguished University Professor

Sometimes one of the best ways to have an interesting career is just to be in the right place at the right time. The only better way is to be lucky enough to work with some of the most special people in your field. I have been blessed by over fifty years of both. In this random and most likely rambling talk I will stumble through a brief review of what I have played a small part of during these years. Looking back I realize that much of what I learned I have not previously connected including writing an unknown and unseen book on supply-chain management and lessons in leadership from one of America’s greatest leaders. The simple decision to choose my first real job based on the people with whom I would spend my time led to over forty years working with many of the people who have created today’s theory and methods of modern quality management. Hopefully this is not the end, the last part of the presentation will include a number of areas where we all still have much work to do.
