In the field of healthcare informatics, the utilization study of the medical imaging devices is a critical to the physician and administrative leadership for decision-making, clinical practice and resource management in Radiology operations. In this paper, we standardized and proposed a generalized set of utilization metrics involving standardized hours of operations (also called shift hours), across heterogeneous imaging modalities, vendors and models. The utilization benchmark metrics enable web-based analytic tools like utilization reports to provide an accurate and complete review of radiology practice and operations for imaging resource management. Comparison results of utilization metric with and without shift information are also provided based on the test data, to show how the metrics involving shift information would affect the decision making based upon the utilization report.
