With the development of advanced manufacturing technology, sensor technology and information technology, equipment, whether large or small such as aircraft engines and household appliance, has the capacity to generate a large amount of data during its operations. The term industrial internet, cyber-physical systems and internet of things refers to the convergence of networking and information technology with engineered physical systems to create a new generation of systems that integrate distributed networks of sensors, controls and processors. What matters in the data obtained from these integrated systems is how analytics can be implemented to discover the hidden value inside the data. The right analytics can provide critical information to minimize equipment downtime and to improve system reliability at individual unit level. In this talk, the speaker will discuss the potential gains for reliability in the era of big data and internet of things.
