Transportation Information

Transportation to the Conference
May 25-27, 2010

Registration will open at 7:45 am and the conference will begin at 9:00 am each day. The registration desk is in the Administration Building (Building 101) just outside the Green Auditorium. All registrants will receive a "Dash Pass" via email on the afternoon of May 21 to print out and bring with them for entry to the NIST campus. You will also need to show a government-issued photo ID. Non-citizens must use their passports for identification and permanent residents should bring their Green Cards.

The bus will leave the Crowne Plaza, which is right next door to the Sleep Inn, for its first run at 7:15 am each day and then come back to the hotels to pick up more people at 7:45 am. Please take the first bus if you can to ensure that we have room for everyone in two trips.

NIST also provides a free shuttle to and from Shady Grove Metro station. To find the shuttle once you arrive at Shady Grove, go through the turnstile and exit the station to the right through a tunnel to the outside (if you encounter any steps after exiting, you are going the wrong way). Once outside go to the right toward the shelters where the buses stop. The NIST bus stops at the 4th bus shelter 15 and 45 minutes after the hour starting at 6:45 am. The bus shelter is marked as the NIST bus stop and the bus is marked as well. You can use the trip planner on the Metro web site to figure out how long your journey will take and when to catch the train. The NIST shuttle returns to Shady Grove on the hour and half-hour until 6:00 pm.

If you are driving, please enter NIST through the Main Gate at the intersection of West Diamond Avenue and Bureau Drive. Stay in the far LEFT lane for Employees. Please do not get out of your vehicle. If your Dash Pass is on your dashboard, the police will see the pass, ask for photo ID and ask you to proceed forward. At the stop sign, turn left. Follow the road until you get to the first intersection and turn left. The parking lot is on the immediate right. The conference is being held in the Administration Building 101, which is the tall building nearest the parking lot. Please leave your Dash Pass on your dashboard at all times while parked on the NIST campus. For a map from the hotel to NIST, click here. NIST's address for use with GPS or mapping software is 100 Bureau Drive, Gaithersburg, MD, 20899.

Use of the Dash Pass is only authorized for registered conference attendees, do not give a copy of this pass to anyone else or bring anyone into NIST who is not pre-registered. Except for children under 15, each person in a car must have his or her own Dash Pass. If you are traveling with someone who does not have a Dash Pass please stop at the NIST Visitor’s Center, just outside the Main Gate instead of following the directions to enter NIST above. You can take a ground shuttle or walk from the Visitor's Center to the Administration Building, which is the tallest building on the NIST campus if you do not have a car.
